 PEARCE, BROOKS

PEARCE, BROOKS

Brooks Pearce, a native Californian, has been a resident of Wilmington, NC since 1973.  Although her career as a painter is rooted in wildlife, she had become a diverse fine artist.

"Pen and ink drawing fulfills the desire for rich values and sensuous textures.  Color is added like a crowning jewel to highlight and breathe life into a moment suspended in time." Pearce likes to work on a large scale, maximizing the textural possibilities while adding drama to the abstraction of the composition.

"I am a naturalist, and in that respect I paint wild animals because I like the outdoors and nature. I also paint children with that kind of feeling."

Motion, variety and color spark her work.  Pearce tries to capture the setting as a moment in time.  She enjoys several media--painting, etching, and drawing, which keeps her work "fresh."

Pearce has painted for a number of movie sets, including "Maximum Overdrive," "Rambling Rose," "Year of the Dragon," and "Sleeping with the Enemy" to name but a few.

Pearce's work has been recognized by the South Carolina Wildlife Federation and consigned by the Endangered Species for the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission.  Her work has been on exhibit in many galleries throughout the United States, including the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York City.  Permanent mural works can be viewed in Wilmington at the Cape Fear Museum, Winter Park Elementary School, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and the Michael Jordan Discovery Gallery.  She also has had a number of commissions by Wachovia Bank.
