 DIGIULIO, JOSEPH

DIGIULIO, JOSEPH

b. 1955

ARTIST BIO

As a Raleigh NC based artist, and cancer survivor, Joseph's work reflects his passion for color and the energy that is created from its unique lapping and overlapping layers. The vivid use of color to create mood, tension or the sublime is incorporated in many of DiGiulio's pieces. Originally trained by Robert Edminston and Norman Keller in sculpture at East Carolina University during the early 1970's he has produced work in carved stone, forged bronze and welded steel.

DiGiulio began working and studying in an abstract expressionistic style of paintings during the late 1990's, which focuses on the relationship between the influences of the 3D medium of sculpture and how those influences can apply to painting not only as an additive method but as a subtractive process as well. He currently works in what he likes to term, "Negative Painting", style as can be seen in his latest works. Joe has exhibited and sold numerous works through out the Southeast US, from Atlanta to New York.
