My artistic and musical roots run deep in North Carolina soil. My mother was a talented painter who inspired me to pursue both art and music. With a major in music from Campbell University, I became a professional musician. Today I lead North Tower Band, a group of six musicians who play festivals, concerts, and special events throughout the Southeast. In the new millennium, painting has become a passion for me. I travel the city with camera in hand, watching the light, shadow, and color as they dance their way through the day. Back in my studio, I study my snapshots and let my imagination out to play and apply paint to canvas.
My work has become known for unexpected, pulsing colors that make North Carolina scenes fresh and intense. I also want my acrylics to convey the respect for the history and culture of North Carolina that I feel as I paint.
I’m honored that my canvases now hang in the homes and offices of prominent North Carolinians, among them Ira David Wood, III, Frank Daniels Jr., Rufus Edmiston, the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, Duke Raleigh Hospital, The Miriam Block Gallery at the Raleigh Municipal Bldg., Cary Visual Arts, Fidelity Bank, and Raleigh Country Club. In 2009, I was awarded “Commissioner’s Choice” for my painting of the North Carolina mountains at the NC State Fair. My work has recently appeared in Metro Magazine, Midtown Magazine and the Clayton News-Star.
