| | COLWELL, SUSAN
Large, loose strokes and juicy color typify Susan's abstract -impressionistic paintings. "I am moved by the ever-changing light and atmosphere in the low country, and I strive to recreate the feeling or mood of a place or a moment. Many of my paintings originate from the view of my studio, which overlooks the Wando River. I am influenced by the subtleties of the light, the reflections on the water, and the softness I see and feel in the landscape. For me, it is not the subject, it is the mood."
As a child, Susan studied art at the Toledo Museum of Art, and as a teenager she had her first solo exhibition in Toledo, Ohio. A winner of numerous awards and scholarships, Susan earned her B.F.A. in painting at Miami University, Oxford Ohio. Galleries in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia represent her, and her work hangs in private and corporate collections throughout the country.
