Mark Dobbs was born in 1967 in Gastonia, NC. His childhood was filled with creative drawing and building, but he did not begin painting until the age of 13. This talent of painting enabled Mark to get into the commercial world of sign painting and design, and he ran a sign company out of his parents’ garage at the age of 15 while attending high school. As the sign business grew, Mark studied commercial art for a year in Charlotte, NC and then moved to Boone, NC to enroll at Appalachian State University. While brokering signs in college, Mark focused his studies on advertising art and marketing. His first and current job out of college is with Adams Outdoor Advertising, selling and helping clients design their billboard campaigns.
Mark’s love of old cars, which he often uses as subject matter in his paintings, comes from the history of Mark’s family. His grandfather was an avid collector of old convertibles, which fascinated the artist at a young age. Mark now enjoys searching for old, abandoned automobiles in the countryside and bringing life and character back into these relic works of art.
